Myrthe van der Zwaan of Nutrition + Advice works for Splash Fitness & Healthclub as a Sports Dietician.
Myrthe gained much experience in dietary guidance while working for top athletes as a dietitian at the Centrum en Topsport en Onderwijs. Myrthe is also a Personal Trainer and the perfect person to determine your body fat percentage through skinfold measurement.
Myrthe herself combines an active lifestyle with enjoying delicious and wholesome foods. It is her passion to guide each athlete, amateur or professional, to a higher level by creating a bespoke diet to suit his or her goal.
Whether you’re a competitive athlete or enjoy sports on a recreational level, a full and balanced diet is always an important aspect. However, this may be quite difficult to achieve in addition to a busy lifestyle, complicated exercise programmes, competitions and any other important matters relevant to your sport. Sufficient energy and fuel necessary to have your body perform and recuperate, can be just the extra push you need to reach your goal or top achievement.
The sports dietitian can assist in several ways, for example:
- determine optimal basic nutrition;
- improving nutrition needed for exercise;
- ensuring a complete recovery;
- guidance into an optimal body composition;
- helping to minimise inconvenient nutrition related symptoms during exercise (e.g., gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue etc.);
- help with establishing the correct fluid balance;
- guidance with use of (vitamin) supplements.
Of course you can also contact the (sports) dietitian about:
- help with weight gain or loss;
- help with diabetes, high blood pressure or other (chronic) diseases
Skinfold measurement and body composition
Body composition can determine where possibilities lie in the sports field, but also which problems the body is likely to encounter. Each body functions differently and a personalised approach is crucial. Body composition can be determined by means of skin fold measurement and makes it possible to:
- explore potential
- monitor progress
The most accurate way to do this is the ISAK method. After successful completion of this course, I can provide you with a detailed picture of your body and its composition in order to work towards your potential and goals.
What does a (sports) dietician do?
During the intake we both look at your eating and exercise habits plus your goals or preferences. On the basis of this information recommendations will be made so that the necessary changes can be applied to your habits. These changes are of course subject to your daily lifestyle and day to day habits. I will support and guide you in maintaining these changes for the long term. I mean to achieve this by providing practical tips, manageable amounts of information and additional encouragement when extra motivation is needed. Remember that advice from a (sports) dietician is always personalised and therefore focused on your needs and lifestyle.

Besides individual athletes, the sports dietician can also provide guidance to teams and groups. Feel free to enquire about possibilities to suit your needs.
